Oh, 2009…what a rollercoaster you were!
In my first year in the photography business, I shot more than 20 weddings and several lifestyle sessions, attended two awesome workshops (one with the ultra-fab Kelly Moore and a one-on-one with the uber-talented Sean and Mel McLellan), and truly grew as a photographer. All of this in addition to working my day job, and I guess it’s understandable why 2009 flew by.
But my social and family life…well, they were sometimes nonexistent. I finally realized I just couldn’t do it all and no longer wanted to pretend that I could. I was completely humbled and encouraged at all of the feedback I received when I poured my heart out and just laid it all out on the table. You all gave me the grace and encouragement I desperately needed.
But with a new year comes a new beginning, a new chance at finding balance in my life. So, 2010 will bring some changes. Good changes. Lots of those changes will affect my business, but all of them will affect my life. For the better. And I believe they will make my clients happier, too. It’s all a win-win!
- I have a brand new web site to reveal sometime soon. I can’t wait to show you all of the wonderful people and places I’ve shot this year. Honestly, the blog had to take a back seat to actually serving my clients and working on their images, so the new web site will feature some never-before-seen content. How exciting, right?
- I’ll also be taking a limited number of weddings — two per month. This is not a total of 24 weddings, but a limit of two each month. So if I book only one in April, I won’t be making it up another month by booking three. Fewer weddings means I’ll be able to give more attention to my clients. And that makes me totally excited!
- I plan on blogging a lot more in 2010. My blog has been super boring lately. Seriously. With the new year comes a a fresh start. So those of you who expressed interest in helping me with my concept shoots should be hearing from me sometime in February or March. And shortly thereafter, there should be plenty of eye candy gracing this blog again. I’d also love to know what topics you’d like me to write about. Leave a suggestion in the comments…who knows, I might just take you up on it!
I’m going to break one of my own rules and not post a picture with the blog. Because this blog post is all business. But coming up in the next week or so, I’ll be blogging sneak peeks of my Jamaican destination wedding as well as my last wedding of 2009. Check back soon!
